17th Annual Microbial Genomics Conference
Rocky Gap State Park, MD.
October 11-15, 2009

The 17th Annual Microbial Genomics Conference is part of a yearly meeting initiated in 1991 and will take place Oct. 11-15th at the beautiful Rocky Gap State park in western Maryland. As the name implies, this is a meeting that is aimed to cover genomic information on a wide variety of microorganisms including viruses. This well established meeting has shifted emphasis from pure sequence data to trying to understand how to use that information to solve biological problems. Towards this end new technologies are being developed and improved: functional genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics as well as more sophisticated experimental genetics, biochemistry, immunology, systems biology, mathematics and physics methods are included in this meeting. In addition to its coverage of microbial genomes and biodiversity, the 17th meeting will also highlight microbial communities and the use of genomic information to aid in the understanding of pathogens and biodefense as well as the emerging important field of synthetic biology.
This meeting is open to all and is designed to have a mix of invited presentations and poster sessions. Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts from which many of the speakers will be selected. Speakers will be selected from the student and postdoctoral abstracts. The meeting will have approximately 160 participants.
