LABORATORY OF PATHOLOGY ONLINE POLICY MANUAL

REQUEST FOR HUMAN BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS FOR RESEARCH

Requests for human biological materials for research are made via formal request through the Tissue Resource Committee (TRC). The purpose of the TRC is to:

  • Codify guidance regarding the procurement and use of human tissues for research.
  • Address issues of human subjects protections, implementation of tissue acquisition, transfer and documentation in the Clinical Center, and implementation of tissue transfer to non-NIH investigators
  • Delineate the differences in handling tissue specimens obtained for clinical care as opposed to research, and protect investigators’ access to tissues collected under protocols, while providing access for others to the Archive .

Both internal LP policy and the Clinical Center Medical Administrative Series M01-1 regulate such requests. The TRC procedures are available by contacting the Clinical Laboratory Manager at 594-9532. Web resources addressing requests are provided at http://home.ncifcrf.gov/ccr/lop/Clinical/labres/hbm.asp
