Technology Transfer Award
The Technology Transfer Award Program is designed to reward scientific, engineering, technical, and other staff engaging in technology transfer activities.
Eligible NCI staff shall be considered for a technology transfer award under this policy for inventions, innovations, computer software development, or other outstanding scientific or technological contributions of value to the United States due to commercial application or due to contributions to missions of the NCI or the Federal government, or for exemplary activities that promote the domestic development and transfer of science and technology.
The Technology Transfer Award applies to all Civil Service, Commissioned Corps, and Non-FTE staff. Non-FTE staff must be officially directly supervised by NIH employees to be eligible for the Technology Transfer Award Program. Eligible non-FTE staff includes Visiting Fellows, IRTAs, CRTAs (for example, Technology Transfer Fellows), NRSA awardees, and special volunteers. Guest Researchers, contract staff, and others who cannot be supervised by NIH employees are not entitled under current law to share in royalties received by the Government. The exception to this rule are contract staff at the Frederick, MD, center.
