NCI-Frederick Laser Safety Training To remain in compliance with ANSI Z136.1, individuals that work with Class 3b and /or Class 4 lasers or laser systems must receive laser safety training. Laser Safety Training at the Facility is provided by a computer-based training (CBT) course. Because the NCI-Frederick does not assume that safety instruction has been adequately covered by prior employment or academic training, the successful completion of this CBT is mandatory for all new users who wish to use Class 3b and/or Class 4 lasers or laser systems. Who must complete this new CBT? All individuals who want to use Class 3b and/or Class 4 lasers and laser systems. How often must this training be taken? This initial laser safety training course need only be taken once. When must this training be completed? Individuals must complete the CBT (and pass the short quizzes at the end of each lesson) prior to using lasers. How will EHS verify that a given person has completed the CBT? You must print, sign, and forward a copy of the Quiz Results to the Radiation Safety Office. Important CBT instructions: You must pre-register by email mailto:rso@ncifcrf.gov or phone x5730 and request your ID number. You will be given an ID number which to use for signing into the training. The training will take approximately 1 hour and you must complete the training in one sitting, if you quit you will have to restart from the beginning. Closed Captioning is available and can be turned on at the beginning of the training. Once you have selected “YES” or “NO” you can not turn it on or off without restarting the training. If you answer a question incorrectly you will be given the chance to review the material and re-answer the question for credit. Once you are inside the training program, you can quit by choosing the "option" button on the menu and selecting "quit" This training may require you to use a citrix plugin for your web browser. If you do not already have the citrix plugin installed, you must contact the computer services helpdesk, x5115 helpdesk@css.ncifcrf.gov and request the citrix client be installed for the Laser Safety Training. Windows: Once the citrix plugin is installed, click on the following link: http://mis-appserver1.ncifcrf.gov/TM2.ica and the laser training program will begin. You may be prompted with a window entitled, "ICA Client File Security." You should select the "Full Access" and "Never ask me again for this application" options and then click, "OK." Mac : Once the citrix client is installed, click on the following link: http://mis-appserver1.ncifcrf.gov/tm-mac.ica and the laser training program will begin.
